Maple Walnut Ice Cream Recipe
We adore the combination of the maple syrup in this recipe with the nuts – it’s a masterful blend that has existed for a long, long time. The reason that recipes get old is that they’re incredibly good! You will adore this homemade maple walnut ice cream recipe for ice cream maker.
Maple syrup has a rich and nutty, brown sugar-like flavor to it that matches up really well with the inherent creaminess of nuts. For this reason, we’d recommend making sure that you pick upgrade A maple syrup over other tiers of syrup. It has a much more concentrated and intense maple flavor, which is perfect for this ice cream!
To make this recipe your own, we would recommend throwing in a little bit of your favorite type of citrus. Lemon, orange, lime, and grapefruit would all give an acidic hit to this recipe, allowing you to bring some power and sharpness to balance the overall flavor of your ice cream.
With that said, the recipe really doesn’t need the citrus if you’re hoping to keep it classic. The woodsy, floral notes of the maple syrup come through really well, which brings a lot of life to the ice cream all on its own. So, let’s get started and make this ice cream at home.

2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup dark amber maple syrup, chilled
Pinch of salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp maple extract
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
Method
At first, combine all of the ingredients aside from the walnuts within a large bowl. Mix everything together, and then leave it alone for just a few moments to help the dry ingredients hydrate fully
Whisk the mixture until the sugar is completely dissolved within it. You may have to break out your hand mixer or stand mixer, as sugar can be tricky to dissolve at room temperature or cooler
Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker, and then process it according to the manufacturer’s instructions
During the final few moments of processing your ice cream, add the walnuts in. Make sure not to add them too early, as they will adversely affect the outcome of your churning process
Using a rubber spatula, transfer the ice cream to an airtight glass or plastic freezer container. We recommend using rubber utensils for this, as wooden utensils can be extremely hard to clean sugar and fat from after they’ve been used with ice cream.
Cover the mixture tightly, and then freeze it all until the homemade maple walnut ice cream recipe is firm, which should take around four hours. The ice cream is best when eaten fresh, though it can be stored in the freezer for roughly a week.
