Cuisinart Ice Cream Deluxe Maker Review: This looks like a great product to get started making your own ice cream and we’d love to see it used in home kitchens across the world. It’s got a more affordable price point than some of its competitors, which means that it could be a great option for lots of people.
The Good
The compact size
Most kitchens out there in the world have a number of things that all need to compete for countertop space. Next to your microwave and toaster, will you really want to keep this ice cream maker out all of the time? Well, since it’s quite small and sleek-looking – we think so!
The good price point
This ice cream maker is well priced for what it is. While you can get cheaper ice cream makers, this one is at a good price point such that you can be sure the build quality is impressive and won’t crumble after the first or second use.
Versatility
This machine can make ice cream really easily, as well as make frozen yogurt and sorbet to boot. This is a lovely thing, and it means that you can easily and quickly have a number of different desserts on the dinner table! The speed is impressive, too – it can freeze and churn your mixture to perfection in as little as 25 minutes!
The Bad
Pre-freezing the bowl
We don’t love the fact that you have to pre-freeze the bowl for twelve hours before you can make ice cream with the machine. It’s fairly standard for machines at this price point, but it is also inconvenient and frustrating. We’d much rather you were able to simply add your ingredients and walk away.
2L capacity
Having a capacity of more or less exactly two liters seems a little unwieldy for most families. To put that into perspective, two liters of ice cream is approximately four tubs of Ben and Jerry’s – that’s a lot of ice cream! While you could freeze your extra ice cream for another day, it defeats the purpose of being able to make it quickly. We’re not convinced that the two-liter capacity is a good size for most people.
The Verdict
This is quite a tough one since the people that this ice cream maker would work for might be quite a small group: people who want to splash out on an ice cream maker and don’t mind the additional time of pre-freezing the bowl.
If you’re someone that fits into that gap, then we’d certainly recommend this ice cream maker to you – it would be a wonderful way to make your own ice cream at home. However, if you’re not in that group of people, then you might be better served by another option. You could save some money and buy a machine that works similarly to this one since you have to pre-freeze the bowl. Or you could spend a little extra money and get an ice cream maker that freezes as it churns – the choice is yours.
